Peace Within

We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves. – Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama

I didn’t get to even think about this quote today because, ironically enough, I spend a large portion of my day breaking up fights.  This kid is angry at that kid, or has “beef” with another kid.  So tonight when I was going over everything in my mind and trying to figure out what happened, all I could think of was that these kids need to focus on themselves and their own problems.  They shouldn’t worry about what so-and-so said or did. If they could just focus their attentions inward, and solve their own issues, they’d be a lot better off.  Then I realized, that’s exactly what this quote is saying. 90 percent of the issues we have in this world would be resolved if we looked within and focused and didn’t worry about what everyone else was doing, we’d be so much better off.  There would be fewer conflicts all around.  So maybe, when we’re bitching about our co-workers, or a spouse or something, instead of going on about everything they did wrong or they should change, maybe we should think about what we’ve done and how we can fix ourselves.  I think we’d find the world a heck of a happier place.
