Live Your Life

Life must be lived and curiosity kept alive. One must never, for whatever reason, turn his back on life.
– Eleanor Roosevelt

I read this quote and read this quote, and I kept focusing on the part about turn his back on life.  I didn’t get it, unless Roosevelt was talking about suicide.  But after much thinking, and a lot of reflection, I finally figured it out.  You have to live your life, not just go through the motions. Before I go life your lifeany further though, I will say that for some people, they think the only option they have is suicide.  Please, if you are feeling this way at all reach out to someone – anyone.  And if you don’t feel as if you have anyone you can talk to call National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.  You are not alone.

You need to live your life, and so do I.  It’s not enough to just exist and go through the motions.  Life is for celebrating, and exploring and doing.  Don’t turn your back on life.  You have an opportunity to experience so much.  Even if you never go more than fifty miles from where you were born, you can still experience so much.

A few years ago there was an inspirational thing that showed up on facebook about 2 men in a hospital. One man had his bed by the window, and he would spend his days telling the man in the other bed of the beautiful things he could see through the window.  Well the man passed, and the other man asked for the bed next to the window.  They moved him, and when he looked outside, all he could see was a brick wall.

To me, that first man was a prime example of live your life.  He didn’t let himself be limited by where he was and what he could see. He opened his mind and used his imagination to explore the world and find the beauty in it. That’s what we all need to do.  I want to live my life to the fullest. Be open to new things, and explore new things, and even if I don’t get to travel, still explore the world through books, television and the internet.  I’m going to live my life and be curious and open my self to new things, and I hope you do too. Live your life.
